Centuries before the Dutch, the Turks cultivated tulips by way of Central Asia. The Tulip Period of Turkey was from 1718-1730, when high society considered the beautiful flower a sign of nobility and leisure. Today, each spring, millions of bulbs still bloom across the parks of Istanbul as part of the city’s annual Tulip Festival.
